The Reading Specialists will use the Orton Gillingham Method, which is a research-proven, multi-sensory method for teaching reading. Orton Gillingham is the gold standard for teaching students with dyslexia and struggling readers.

The program will include direct instruction in specific spelling patterns and rules, lots of hands on activities and games, individual and partner work, lots of opportunities for practice, and individualized instruction based one each student's needs. 

The program will be taught by Educational Therapist and Reading Specialist Jordan Burns, who is the Reading Specialist at Mountain Shadows Montessori and the owner of The Joy of Learning. You can read about Jordan on this website's homepage, at this link. 

Depending on enrollment, other Reading Specialists from The Joy of Learning may teach too. All of our Reading Specialists have degrees in education and extensive training in reading intervention and the Orton Gillingham method. 

For students entering grades 1-4, who are reading at pre-k through 3rd grade reading levels. We welcome students who have Dyslexia, as well as students who need support with reading, or want to build their confidence for the upcoming school year.

Students will be placed in small groups with peers at similar skill levels, with a maximum of 4 students per teacher.
